Ray was born in Guyana, South America and came to England as a toddler where he was schooled. Married with three grown up daughters his thirty year career includes government service, pastoral ministry and a brief period as a prison governor at a young offenders institute in Milton Keynes.
In 2002 Ray founded the Eastside Young Leaders’ Academy (EYLA), a leadership development organisation for Black boys. This award winning organisation has twice seen Ray nominated for the Morgan Stanley Great Britons Award and in 2007 EYLA won the Guardian Public Service Award.
Ray has a passion for excellence in education and currently serves as an advisor to the Mayor of London.
